FINDING WORK IN A JOBLESS RECOVERY
Randy Block

Guest Speakers: Randy Block, Executive Career Coach (specializing in the Boomer generation)
Jim Stewart, Founder of Executive Compass (assisting in-transition senior level executives) & Executive Smarts (an interim executive search firm).
Date: Wednesday, January 20, 2010

Jim Stewart

Class Description: Ever ask yourself…"It seems I am spinning my wheels! What will it take to find work? What am I doing wrong?" In this economy, do you know what doesn’t work in the work search process…and more importantly what does work. Is networking really that important? What about personal branding and all that social media stuff. What will work in 2010?

The speakers, Randy and Jim, use their extensive experience in consulting with executives to take a look at these issues and others critically relevant to the search for work today. Companies are hiring solutions…and not just people. What is your solution? Bottom line, they will discuss the “Ten Steps” you can take to maximize your process for finding work. Admittedly, there are no silver bullets or panaceas…but it is crucial to understand that the paradigm has changed…and that there are things you need to do to adapt. For job seekers, current conditions are the new normal.

In this 90 minute session you will learn:

  • Work techniques that no longer work…and why.
  • How networking is more than it is cracked up to be.
  • What should a “work plan” include.
  • What defines a decision maker or a decision influencer.
  • The real value of a personal brand – how to stand out from the pack.
  • What does it mean …and how do I get a digital footprint?

About the Speakers:

Randy Block is an executive coach specializing in helping boomer executives. His focus is on career transition: changing careers, choosing a career direction, job search, opportunities for self employment, freelancing and consulting. He facilitates a job/work search executive group for the San Francisco C-Level Executives and also serves as a staffing consultant for high tech start up companies. His professional career includes executive search and corporate employment (primarily within the human resource discipline). He earned a degree in business from Cornell University and holds certificates from the Career Planning and Adult Development Network, Career Coach Academy and the Retirement Coach Institute.

Jim Stewart is the founder of Executive Compass (a firm that assists in-transition senior level executives) and Executive Smarts (an executive search firm with focus on interim assignments). He is a noted speaker on career management and has met with thousands of senior level in transition executives. His consistent message is that “the skills to find a job are different from the skills to perform a job”. His career includes CEO positions for durable goods manufacturing in the automotive, appliance and building products industries. He has also led multiple acquisition, integration and divestiture teams for private equity, holding companies and mezzanine investors. Jim is a graduate of Texas A & M University and the Stanford University Graduate School of Business Executive Management Program.
