"HOT BUTTON" ISSUES FOR EXECUTIVE LEVEL RECRUITING William Hill

Guest Speaker: William R. Hill; Partner in the law firm of Donahue Gallagher Woods LLP. Twenty-five years experience advising both executives and employers in matters related to executive employment.
Date: Thursday, February 25, 2010
Time: 4:00-5:30 PM Eastern, 1:00-2:30 PM Pacific

Class Description: The current economic and political climate is substantially changing the landscape for those recruiting at the executive level. We live in a highly evolving legal world …with federal and state regulators, plaintiff and class action attorneys and entities like The Pay Czar, the U.S. Department of Treasury and the Securities and Exchange Commission …all littering the “executive hiring playing field” with new considerations, interpretations and laws. The upshot of this activity is making it even more difficult to successfully recruit at the executive level, not only for publicly traded corporations but for privately held companies as well. Are you current on changes that impact your effectiveness in your job today?

William “Rock” Hill, a legal expert in employment law, will give practical advice on current hot-button issues for executive level recruiting. This timely information is appropriate for those hiring at the senior level – both corporately employed as well as independent recruiters.

In this teleseminar you will learn:

  • Employees vs. Independent Contractors; why the distinction matters to recruiters.
  • The “bear traps” in recruiting; what to avoid in sourcing candidates and conducting background checks.
  • The essentials of the Executive Employment Agreement from the employer/recruiter perspective.
  • Key elements of some Executive Compensation Packages such as deferred compensation and design of performance based compensation.
  • What is “Say on Pay” and why it matters to recruiters.
  • What to do and what to avoid in recruiting foreign nationals.
  • The application of anti-discrimination laws to recruiters.

About the Speaker:

WILLIAM R. HILL is a partner in the law firm of Donahue Gallagher Woods LLP with twenty-five years of experience focused primarily on litigation, commercial law, and employment-related disputes. He regularly advises and represents both employers and employees in matters related to wrongful termination, confidentiality and non-competition agreements, “Work for Hire” in the high-tech industries, and wage and hour laws.

Mr. Hill received his law degree from Boalt Hall, University of California at Berkeley in 1984, a Master of Arts degree in 1981 from Stanford University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1978 from U.C. Berkeley. Mr. Hill is also a member of the Litigation Counsel of America, an invitation-only honorary society composed of less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers. And, for the past six years and running, he has been named a “Super Lawyer” by San Francisco Magazine, an honor bestowed every year on just 5% of the lawyers practicing in Northern California. Mr. Hill is a frequent speaker on diverse legal topics, including litigation strategies in employment litigation.
